“Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him” (Genesis 2:18 NLT).
Believe it or not, marriage is a God-made institution. Man didn’t invent marriage; God did.
Back in Genesis, Adam was having a fine time, living in abundance in the most beautiful place on earth. He was naming the animals, riding donkeys around, and having a good time.
Up to this point, God had been creating all kinds of things and each time, He’d step back, look at it and say, “Good!”
Then all of a sudden, one day God looked at Adam and said, “Not Good.”
“What’s not good?”
God said, “It’s not good that you are alone!”
By then, Adam had probably noticed that everything God created came in pairs—male and female. He thought, Wait a minute. Something’s missing! So, God makes Adam take a long nap. When he wakes up he discovers that he’s missing a rib, but now he has a wife!
When God made Eve and put her together with Adam, He knew exactly what He was doing. He knew that two are better than one.
“Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NLT).
