My son, hear the instruction of your father, And do not forsake the law of your mother…” (Proverbs 1:8 NKJV).
The Bible talks about training up a child in the way he should go. This means making sure they learn more than just school book smarts. It means teaching them wisdom principles from God’s Word about righteous living, what kind of friends to hang out with, how to treat people, how to handle negative peer pressure, how to have a good work ethic, and how to walk in honor and integrity, just to name a few.
The book of Proverbs is called the book of wisdom, and it’s a great book to read with your kids. It lays down a lot of instruction and spiritual and moral principles to teach your children. It gives guidelines so your kids will know, this is what we will and will not tolerate in our home. These are the rules that are important in life, and we’re going to base our life on them.
Teaching your kids these principles at an early age will create a foundation that will stick with them for life. As they grow up and continue walking in God’s wisdom principles, not only will they live a rich, satisfying life, but they’ll influence others.
The Take Away:
Teach your kids to value and esteem the Word of God. They learn a lot by watching you, Mom and Dad. So make sure that you’re living the wisdom principles in front of them. Remember, you can teach what you know, but you’ll reproduce what you are. Your actions speak louder than words.
