If you don’t know where you’re going in life, how will you ever know when you’ve arrived?
One of the greatest problems in marriage is a lack of vision. Couples have a vision for a wedding, but not for a life. They assume that they’ll step into the “happily ever after” and everything will just fall into place.
However, having a vision for your life together after the wedding is important. God cannot order the steps of a couple who has no plans. God says, “You have not, because you ask not” (James 4:2). He also said in Jeremiah 33:3, “I’ve got great and mighty plans for you, but I need you to ask Me what they are. I won’t tell you unless you ask Me” (author’s paraphrase).
Since God is the One who knows the plan for your life, it only makes sense to consult with Him on a regular basis and get His guidance. God, the One who knows all the details regarding your life’s plan, said that He’d order your steps, direct your paths, and show you things to come. If you’ll ask Him, He’ll direct you step by step and begin to show you what that great plan is.
To have a successful marriage, you have to have a vision and set goals for your marriage, your family, and your life together.
The Take Away:
Every couple needs to have a vision for their life together. As a couple, pray and ask God for direction and for His plan. Set aside time to ask your spouse, “What is your vision for this marriage, for our family, for our life together? What are some steps we can take to begin following the plan we believe God has for us?”
