“…There is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24 KJV).
Great relationships don’t just happen by accident or coincidence. They happen on purpose. That means they take time, effort, and investment.
Everyone’s life gets busy. If we’re not careful, some of our most valuable relationships can fall by the wayside.
Families living under the same roof can become strangers because everyone is going in a different direction. The husband’s job constantly pulls on him. The wife is busy trying to maintain the household duties, the kids, and all their activities. The kids are busy with schoolwork, sports practice, cheerleading practice, piano lessons, and on the weekends there are birthday parties and sleepovers with friends.
In such a busy world, it’s easy to miss out on spending quality time with the people who are the most important in our lives. In Proverbs 18:24 the Bible talks about a friend who sticks closer than a brother. That is someone who’s taken the time to develop a strong relationship. We have to make time for the people we value. We need to build relationships on purpose.

Take time to plan get-togethers with friends. Go out for dinner or coffee. Do something where you can talk and catch up with what’s going on in their lives. Plan family times where everyone is present, maybe a game night, a bowling night, or a movie night. Get your kids involved in helping to plan family activities.
