It’s easy to look at a sports celebrity and think, Man, look at what a great life they have! I wish I was that talented!
What you don’t always see are the hundreds of hours they’ve spent practicing, running drills, lifting weights, jogging, and watching tons of post-game footage. It wasn’t just their talent that made them successful. It was their determination.
Determination and diligence go hand in hand. And the Bible has a lot to say about diligence. It says a diligent man will be in charge (Proverbs 12:24). He’ll be made rich, and his soul will be made fat (Proverbs 10:4; 13:4). He’ll stand before kings (Proverbs 22:29).
The people that are successful in life are not necessarily the smartest or the most talented. They are the ones who simply refused to quit. If they got knocked down or if they fell down, they got back up, put their hand back on the plow, and started moving again.
Determination is an incredible principle in life. Teach it to your kids.
The Take Away
So many people will try things and if it doesn’t work the first time, they just give up. But the Bible doesn’t teach a “give up” mentality. It teaches diligence. If we want our kids to be successful in life, we have to instill in them a sense of determination. They have to learn how to set goals and then have the determination to meet those goals. Read James 1:2-4, 12.
Find out what God’s vision for your life is and become determined to diligently pursue that purpose.
