As a kid, did you ever play a game where one person cheated, and as a result, someone yelled out, “Cheaters never win!”
Well, when it comes to life, that’s a pretty good rule of thumb.
Do you want to have great relationships? Then, don’t cheat or manipulate people.
People don’t like it when you do that. Don’t lie. People don’t like liars. Don’t be deceptive and dishonest. It’s not conducive to building healthy, lasting relationships.
Let me give you a few tips on how to have great relationships—treat people fairly, be kind, show mercy, and be humble.
This isn’t just my opinion. It’s actually in the Word of God. Micah 6:8 (ERV) says, “And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, and to love kindness and mercy, and to humble yourself and walk humbly with your God?”
If we want to have healthy, strong relationships, we need to have integrity and be honest, even if we have to swear to our own hurt. We need to demonstrate kindness in our words and actions and prefer others before ourselves. Those are some of the ingredients for great relationships!
THE TAKE AWAY
People like hanging around those who are nice, truthful, and considerate. Take a good, honest look in the mirror and ask yourself, “Do I exhibit these qualities? Are there areas in my life that I might need to work on?” Here’s a great prayer that David prayed: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life” (Psalm 139:23-24 NLT).
