Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. Philippians 1:3
Today, we honor those who have served and are serving our country. We can also learn from their example of service.
Servicemen and women give us a great example of the servant leadership Jesus modeled for us.
WHAT THE WORD SAYS
- When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. … John 13:12-17
- …Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:42
- There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13
A life of service is what God has called us all to! We are to serve one another and to give our life for each other.
“Honor to the soldier and sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country’s cause. Honor, also, to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field and serves, as he best can, the same cause.” –Abraham Lincoln
WAYS TO CELEBRATE AND THANK A VETERAN
Remember: This doesn’t just have to be something we do on November 11th. We should reach out to veterans and their families all year round.
Be sure to thank someone for their service and let’s make this attitude of thanks an every day habit!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE
You can also get FREE encouraging family messages year-round on our Fighting for Families radio program!
Here is a great resource from the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization that shows where veterans can get discounts and deals all day.
