Today, we honor those who have served and are serving our country. We can also learn from their example of service.
Servicemen and women give us a great example of the servant leadership Jesus modeled for us.
WHAT THE WORD SAYS
- When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. … John 13:12-17
- …Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:42
- There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13
A life of service is what God has called us all to! We are to serve one another and to give our life for each other.
