There are a lot of voices and opinions out there about parenting.
It can seem overwhelming, but don’t let yourself get overwhelmed. The key to being a strong (not perfect) parent is in God’s Word.
A great example of God’s Word on parenting is found in Psalm 112:1-3, which says:
Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, Who delights greatly in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed.Wealth and riches will be in his house, And his righteousness endures forever.
As a father, I made sure I wrote that scripture down in my daily prayer cards so I could read and re-read. I would thank God for it and pray it over myself and my family.
That scripture is a perfect example of parenting. If I want to raise godly, successful children, I need to fear God and delight in His commandments. I need to show my children the example of seeking God and living according to His Word.
This is a promise that God gives us. It says, “Blessed is the man,” not that the man might be blessed or his children (seed) could be mighty – it says they will!
