Leadership Material

Did you know that you have what it takes to be a leader? That’s what God says. But, it’s up to you whether or not you become one.

You may be saying, I’m just this… or I’m only that…, but your “job title” doesn’t determine if you’re a leader or not.

(Here’s what does…)

“…Whoever desires to become great among you. Let him be your servant.”  Mark 10:43

Truly being successful in your job and your family is about being a problem solver. It’s about helping others solve problems. This is servant leadership.

LEADERSHIP AT WORK

Just before I got married to Denise, I took a job as a janitor. I had been working a better paying job running a backhoe, but it didn’t have benefits. And Denise would only marry me if I had healthcare. Needless to say, I took the pay cut, but I immediately began looking for a better job.

I would take every available opportunity at the company and eventually got a job as a lab technician. That job required incredible math skills that I didn’t have at the time, but they hired me anyway because of my ability to talk! They didn’t need someone who just had math skills. They needed someone who could communicate to the clients that would visit. I solved that problem for them.

A life of service is what God has called us all to! We are to serve one another and to give our life for each other.

I ended up using this principle to be promoted to a senior lab technician and finally to the first non-degreed engineer in that company. They kept giving me more authority (and more pay) because I kept finding solutions to problems. Don’t get me wrong. It wasn’t easy! It was hard work. I had to go back to school, work late, and learn to get along with people that I didn’t like.

(We have a new MP3 series that can help you succeed in relationships and servant leadership. It’s called, “Relationships: Responding to People.”)

LEADERSHIP AT HOME

Don’t mistake leadership for a job title. It’s a lifestyle. It doesn’t end at 5:00 p.m. Servant leadership should extend to every area of our daily life – this includes our family. Take a moment and assess your effort in this area. When you’re with your family, do you give them just as much effort as a problem-solver? Look for ways to help your spouse and your children every day. Ask them what they are needing help with and you’ll be amazed at the results it will yield in the intimacy and strength it will build!

(You’re never too young or old to start gaining the life skills to succeed. Here is a tool that will help you and others at the same time)

Your ability to lead your family, your kids, or your coworkers boils down to your desire to serve.

Don’t wait for someone to “promote” you to act like a leader. Start today!

THREE WAYS TO START TODAY

1. Find a need and meet it.
2. Look for ways to solve problems (not just talk about them).
3. Leave everything better than you find it.

PRAYER

Father, Thank You for helping me become a servant leader and for giving me not only the desire but the power to do what You have called me to do (Philippians 2:13). I ask for wisdom (James 1:5) and commit my works to You today (Proverbs 16:3).

Now that you know that you have what it takes to be a leader, take the next step by getting a vision and a plan for your life! Start here.

NEW FROM JOE

The right word to the right person in the right situation is the challenge. Learning how to respond to people is one of the biggest challenges in relationships.

In this laugh-and-learn series, we’ll cover what the book of Proverbs has to say. It will change the way you do things!

SERVING OTHERS

Denise and I started this ministry to help men and women build stronger marriages and families through God’s Word. OUR MINISTRY IS ABOUT SERVING PEOPLE.

We invite you to join us in serving others. Here are a couple ways you can do that.

PRAYER: Will you pray for us? We are believing God will use us to help serve thousands of people through our Faith for Families seminars and our Fighting for Families radio broadcast. Together, we can reach millions of people with God’s Word and empower them to fulfill God’s plan for their lives.

Let us know you would like to be a prayer partner and we’ll send you updates each month with a new prayer list.

SUPPORT: Will you partner with us financially? I invite you to support our radio program as we broadcast the Word of God to millions of people. We are at a critical time as we are building enough listener support to cover the costs. For your support of $35 or more, we will send you our special thank you gift for this month [Marriage Building 101 5-DVD set]

It makes a great gift for couples of every age and stage!
