“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth” (Genesis 1:27-28 KJV).
God’s plan for humanity is that a man and a woman come together as husband and wife, raise godly seed, and build a strong family and a successful life. The problem is that we have an enemy whose goal is to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10).
At the top of his list of things to destroy are marriages and families. Blended families can feel an extra strain because of the unique circumstances they may be facing with ex-spouses, children,etc. As a result, one of the biggest challenges of divorce or remarriage is building a healthy “blended family.”
There’s no such thing as an instant family. Building a family takes time. In a family where parents have not divorced, it can take 18 years, starting from when the first baby arrives on the scene, to build and grow a healthy, strong family. That time is a lot less when working to build a blended family with children who may already be six, seven, eight years old, or even teenagers.
However, it’s not impossible! It can be done! The first step is to realize that blended families aren’t like instant pudding. You can’t throw them together and expect them to immediately blend together. It takes time, as well as a lot of love, prayer, patience, and in many cases a professional Christian counselor who can give you some practical wisdom and advice.
If you’re struggling to build your blended family, I want to encourage you today. God loves you and your family! There is nothing too hard for God to do! He has answers, solutions, and wisdom to help you through every challenge.
TAKE AWAY
God will give you the wisdom you need to build a healthy, loving family, but realize that wisdom may come in the form of a good Christian family counselor. Don’t think that it’s a lack of faith to go to a counselor and get help and advice. They may be God’s answer to your family’s needs.
