It’s easy to look at a sports celebrity and think, Man, look at what a great life they have! I wish I was that talented!
What you don’t always see are the hundreds of hours they’ve spent practicing, running drills, lifting weights, jogging, and watching tons of post-game footage. It wasn’t just their talent that made them successful. It was their determination.
Determination and diligence go hand in hand. And the Bible has a lot to say about diligence. It says a diligent man will be in charge (Proverbs 12:24). He’ll be made rich, and his soul will be made fat (Proverbs 10:4; 13:4). He’ll stand before kings (Proverbs 22:29).
The Take Away:
So many people will try things and if it doesn’t work the first time, they just give up. But the Bible doesn’t teach a “give up” mentality. It teaches diligence. If we want our kids to be successful in life, we have to instill in them a sense of determination. They have to learn how to set goals and then have the determination to meet those goals.
