One time when I was traveling, I was taking the shuttle bus from the airport car rental location to the terminal.
I struck up a conversation with the shuttle driver who was a nice lady.
There was another couple on the shuttle. They were both well dressed and probably in their fifties. As the shuttle driver pulled up to their specific terminal location to let them off, she was very helpful and polite. She unloaded all of their bags from the shuttle and told them, “I hope you have a nice flight. Thank you for renting with us.”
As I watched, the successful looking businessman opened his wallet to tip the shuttle driver. He had several bills of different denominations in his billfold, but pulled out a $1.00 and handed it to her. After this lady had been so nice and polite and had lugged all of their bags off of the shuttle for them, I couldn’t help but think of how ungenerous this man’s attitude was in handing her $1.00.
Now, I don’t know how a person can prosper with that kind of stingy attitude. How can you tip just a dollar? That is just embarrassing. The Bible says, “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will repay him for his deed” (Proverbs 19:17 ESV).
If you’re going to tip someone for their services, always do a little extra. Make someone’s day—be generous!
The Take Away:
Be generous and teach your children the principle of generosity. Proverbs 11:24-25 (NLT) says, “Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.” Let’s represent God well and go the extra mile—give extra money, give extra time, give an extra smile, put a little extra life into somebody. Do something extra to bless someone today!
