As parents, we need to teach our kids about prosperity. We need to teach them to be diligent, to work hard, and to be faithful, but we also need to teach them how to have a prosperous soul.
Both prosperity and poverty are tied directly to our souls. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23:7). What we think about prosperity makes a huge difference in the type of life we lead. If we don’t think we deserve to have anything, or we’ve been raised by parents whose attitude is “we’re poor, but we’re proud”, then our souls will hold us back. We may work real hard, but we won’t experience the blessing God wants us to have because we are poor in our souls. We have to change our thinking!
How do I change my thinking? How do I teach my kids to not have a poverty mentality?
Deuteronomy chapter 28 lists the blessings that God promises to those who will keep His commandments. Sit down with your children and read this chapter to them. It will build up their souls and give them a vison of the life God wants them to have—a blessed, prosperous life!
The Take Away:
Read Deuteronomy chapter 28 to your kids. Don’t just do it one time, but do it consistently. It will show them what their lives are supposed to look like. Years later, when they’re grown, they’ll think, I remember when Mom and Dad sat down and read Deuteronomy 28 to me. I’m going to do that with my kids! Let’s pass down God’s blessings from generation to generation!
