As believers, we have the opportunity to function in not just one economy, but in two different economies.
We function in this world’s natural economy, but we have an advantage because we can also function in God’s economy. In order to be successful in both, we have to accept the responsibilities that come with each economy.
God’s Economy…
In God’s economy, the source of our financial security is God. He owns everything, and when we follow His principles, He’s promised to provide for us and show us how to prosper. In God’s economy, the two keys to success are obedience and faith.
The World’s Economy…
In the world’s economy, our source of financial security comes from our vocation or job, from our insurance, our stocks and bonds, from the family inheritance, and our talents. This economy is based on the world’s system and self-reliance. There are three keys to financial success in the world’s economy: hard work, knowledge, vision and plans.
As Christians, we need to learn how to apply all the keys so that we can walk in the fullness of the blessing God has for us. In the world’s economy, to be financially secure, we’ve got to use some natural tools, but in God’s economy we’ve got to use some spiritual tools to prosper.
The Take Away:
When we follow the principles in both economies, we can say like David said in Psalm 37:25 (NIV), “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.”
