I remember being at the airport early on one New Year’s Day. I had been in Nashville doing a seminar and was flying back home to be with my family.

There weren’t many people in the airport at 6:00 a.m. in the morning on that holiday. I went to get a newspaper and a bottle of water before boarding my flight. There was a lady working the kiosk, and even though it was really early, she was happy and singing.

I commented on her good mood so early in the morning and on a holiday at that. She said, “You know, I’ve learned something about life that’s made me happy.” She said, “I’ve worked, and I’ve not worked, and working is better! I’m happy to be working today even though it’s a holiday.”

I had a lot of respect for that lady. She had a great attitude and was just happy to have a job.

Second Thessalonians 3:10 says that if you don’t work, you don’t eat. God didn’t create Adam to just sit around in the garden all day eating grapes and drinking mango juice. God knows that work is a good thing. That’s why He gave Adam a job to cultivate and manage the garden.

The Take Away

There’s a time to work and a time to rest. You have to learn to balance both. Teach your kids to have a good work ethic. Nobody respects a lazy person, but they admire someone who works hard and has a good attitude.
