If we want to live successful lives, we need to keep our hearts pure and our motives right.
Have you ever heard someone say with false humility, “Well, I’m probably not as talented as he is”? But in reality, they know they’re just as talented if not more. What they’re really doing is fishing for a compliment. They want to hear you say, “Oh, but you’re much more talented than he is!”

Others may not see their heart motive, but God does. Nothing is hidden from God. He has night vision. He can see in the dark. He reads our thoughts. He can see right through every pretense and every false motive. He sees right into our heart. We might lie to ourselves, but we can’t lie to God.
The Bible says in Proverbs 16:2-3 (NLT), “People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motives.” If we want to be successful in life, we need to guard our hearts and keep our motives right.
“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life” (Proverbs 4:23 NLT).

THE TAKE AWAY

Do you want to live a successful life? Then keep your heart pure. Evaluate your motives on a regular basis. Ask yourself, “Am I doing this or saying this to impress someone or to score brownie points? Am I trying to make someone else look bad, so I’ll look good?”
