What do you want your family to stand for?
Think of your neighborhood, your church, or your community. Think about the families that live there or attend. If we started listing those family names one by one, you’d get an image in your mind of who they are.
More than an image, you have an impression of them. Think of the families we’ve all heard of – the Rockefellers, the Roosevelts, the Vanderbilts, and the list goes on. Whenever you hear those names, you think of certain things, whether that is wealth or politics, philanthropy, etc.
Now consider the following question. What would you like people to think of when they hear your name?
It’s more than your reputation, the question is meant to help you consider what you want your family to be known for, to stand for, and to work for.
Like anything you achieve, you need to be purposeful about this. You can be passive or you can be purposeful.
You need to develop a mission statement.
