“Sink your roots in him and build on him, be strengthened by the faith that you were taught, and overflow with thanksgiving” (Colossians 2:7 GW).
There are consequences of low self-worth. Low self-worth creates chameleons—people who are constantly changing because they don’t know who they are. They feel like they’re a “nobody,” and as a result, they will mimic whomever they’re with in order to feel accepted.
People with low self-worth are very gullible. They don’t know that God has a specific plan and purpose just for them. As a result, they will follow the crowd, trying to find their worth in everything around them. Because they don’t have convictions of their own, they can change like the wind. People who don’t feel good about themselves will never find the anchor to their own soul.
Our children don’t have to be chameleons. We can establish a sense of self-worth and value inside of them so that no matter whom they’re around or what situation they may find themselves in, they’ll stand strong in their own convictions.
The Take Away:
Build your children’s self-worth by planting a vision inside of them of who God says they are! The more you plant God’s Word in them, the further their roots will sink in Him. Their sense of self-worth will be built on Him.
