There’s a very good reason why parents should never call their child, “stupid.”
It’s because your words are powerful. If you of all people, who know your child best, call them stupid, your child will start to think, “I must be stupid because my dad said I am.”
A person will begin to believe what they hear the most. If at home, all they hear is how they are doing something incorrect or that they never learn, they will begin to see themselves that way.
HOW IT AFFECTS THEM
Your child may be sitting in school one day and hear a teacher call another kid stupid. So your child goes over and sits down next to that other kid thinking, He’s stupid and I’m stupid, so we can be stupid together. We’ll go to stupid places, do stupid things, and talk like stupid people because we’re both stupid.
Words are important. God used words to create the universe and everything on this planet. Throughout Genesis chapter one we see where “God said…and it was so.” Whether you realize it or not, your words have a big impact on your children. No matter what your child does, put a guard on your mouth, choose your words carefully, and speak life over him or her.
Remember, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof” (Proverbs 18:21 KJV).

What words are you speaking about your children? If you don’t want dumb kids, then don’t call them dumb even if they do dumb things every now and then. Make sure that what you’re saying about them lines up with what you want them to become.
