Raising a Wise Child

As parents, it can be easy to fall into the trap of focusing on giving our children things. We want our children to have a certain kind of education and to wear a certain kind of clothing. Then, after providing children with all of those things, many parents wonder why their children don’t turn out right.

One reason may be that many of those children are never given God’s Word.

The degree to which our children have the Word of God established in their hearts is the degree to which they will make wise decisions in their lives. That’s why Colossians 3:16 (KJV) says, “Let the Word of God dwell in you richly….”

Having a good education is important, but our children need godly wisdom in order to have a long life, honor, and riches here on the earth (Proverbs 3:15-16). If they have no Word, they will have no wisdom.

We must sow the Word into our children on a daily basis. Deuteronomy 11:19 gives us instruction on when and where to teach them: Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

It’s also important for them to hear it from others. Make sure your kids are involved in church, whether it is Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, a Bible study, etc. They need to get the Word of God into their spirits.
