The first step to becoming prosperous is to realize that poverty is a condition of the soul, not the pocketbook.

In 3 John 2 (KJV) it says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”

And in Joshua 1:8 (KJV) it says, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

In both of these scriptures, God puts the responsibility of prosperity on us. Our souls have to prosper first, which means we have to get our thinking straight. We need to start thinking the way God thinks, and that means meditating on His Word.

If we’re having problems with our money—we’re always in debt, bill collectors are constantly calling—then our problem is not with cash. Our problem is the way we think. But when we think like God thinks and do what His Word tells us to do, then we will have what God says we can have—prosperity and good success.

Take Away:

Let’s get in the Word and find how God thinks. Let’s change our thinking to be like His. Here are a few scriptures to begin with: Psalm 1:1-3; Psalm 35:27; Psalm 112:1-3; Deuteronomy 8:18; Proverbs 28:20; John 10:10
