Have you ever had a tough challenge come against you and you thought, Why is this happening? What have I done wrong?
Well, maybe nothing. The devil is just attacking you. That’s what he does. He doesn’t like anybody and makes it his full-time job to attack everybody. But that doesn’t mean that we have to take it and get beat up.
As Christians, God has given us all the equipment we need to run the devil off and live a happy, successful life on this planet. Part of that equipment is our God-given authority. Jesus said He’s given us authority over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:15 NKJV).
Notice that Jesus didn’t say we have spiritual authority over people but over the power of the enemy. Our enemies aren’t co-workers, politicians, next-door-neighbors, or our in-laws. There is an unseen world that we have to deal with. If we’re not aware of that, we’ll end up getting mad at somebody’s flesh, and flesh is not our enemy. The enemies we’re called to whip in this life are principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual hosts of wickedness (Ephesians 6:14).
When we know our authority in Christ, we won’t let ourselves be a punching bag for the devil to beat up on. We’ll use our authority, speak God’s Word, and put the devil on the run!
THE TAKE AWAY
We can defeat the devil by using the authority Jesus gave us. The Bible says when we resist the devil he will flee from us (James 4:7). For example, if the devil is attacking you with thoughts of fear, stand against him and resist those thoughts by speaking God’s Word: “God has not given me the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7, paraphrased). The devil is no match for God’s Word and the authority it carries! His Word will bring victory every single time!
