“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think…” (Ephesians 3:20 KJV).
Smart moms never settle for the status quo or for just getting by. Smart moms dream big and don’t hesitate to ask big! That can make daddies nervous because they’re usually the ones who are counting all the pennies, nickels, and dimes to make sure the budget gets met every month.
When my wife, Denise, and I got married she told me that all of our kids would go to college. I said, “Really? How are we going to pay for that?”
She said, “I don’t know, but they’re all going.”
Denise was adamant about this because we had both come from horrible poverty situations. Her family was from the coal mines of West Virginia, and my family was from the copper mines of east Tennessee. So Denise was determined that our kids were going to get a college education so they would have a good start in life.
To help motivate our six kids, Denise and I bought some big picture frames. We had a brass nameplate put on the bottom of each frame with each of our kid’s name on it. Then we hung all six empty frames on a wall in our house. Our kids came home from school and saw those frames and said, “What’s that?”
I said, “That’s where you’re going to hang your college degree. We’re going to help you get it, and then it’s going to hang right here on this wall.”
We were taking steps of faith and also planting a vision in our kids. Good moms know how to dream big dreams for their kids. They want to give their kids every advantage possible so they can be successful and have the best life possible.
The Take Away
Don’t be afraid to have big dreams! You don’t have to settle for the status quo. God will do as little or as much as you ask Him to. Bottom line, it’s up to you. But know this, His ultimate desire is for you to think big and dream big because He is a big God and can and will do big things for you!
