Training is an important part of life. Whether it’s to learn a skill, a vocation, or even a hobby, training can be vitally necessary.
I have a pastor friend who wanted to go parachuting on his 75th birthday. It was something he had always wanted to do. He said he had to get some training before he went up. You can’t just walk into a skydiving center, tell them you’ve never jumped before and want to go solo, and expect them to immediately tie a parachute onto your back, take you up, and kick you out of the plane. That just wouldn’t end well!
Another good friend of mine is a great scuba diver. But the first time he went, they didn’t just put tanks on his back and kick him over the side of the boat. He had to get some training before he made his first dive.
There are a lot of things people wouldn’t even think about attempting without some sort of training. Yet many people make the leap into one of the most important events of their life—marriage—with no training at all.
Most couples think, “We don’t need any training. We’re in love!” But the truth is, if you really love each other, you’ll invest in yourself and your future spouse and get some training. You’ll be glad you did!

THE TAKE AWAY
If you’re in love and are thinking about getting married, that’s great! But get some training. Even if you’ve been married for 10, 20, or 50 years – it’s important to refresh what you know. Take time to get some good, godly counseling. Read books on marriage. Listen to teaching on marriage. You’ll learn a lot, and it’ll save your life.
