A common complaint among parents is, “I’ve tried to talk to my kids about that, but they won’t even listen.”
If you want your children to listen, you have to model the behavior for them.
Parents, you will never be able to have a deep conversation with your child if you don’t first have some seemingly silly conversations with them about trivial things.
If you aren’t willing to do so, you will never be able to talk to them about the important things.
Proverbs 20:5 (NKJV) says, “Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water, but a man of understanding will it out.”
Sometimes when your children talk to you it may sound foolish and unimportant. You might feel like saying to them, “I’m busy right now. I have some important things to think about, so just keep quiet.” However, if you want your kids to listen to you and if you want to have deep conversations with them, you have to learn to be a good listener.
