Jesus said in John chapter 14:26 that He’s given us a Helper called the Holy Spirit.

Jesus also said the Holy Spirit would guide us into all truth (John 16:13), which means He’s pretty smart and knows a whole lot about everything. So, if we ask Him, He’ll help us in every area of our lives, including how to be a good parent.

For example, have you ever found yourself racing around at the last minute trying to come up with a school project that your kid waited to tell you about until the last minute? I had that happen with one of our daughters.

I found out on a Thursday night that she had a science fair project due the next day. I was tempted to let her get an “F” on the project, but my wife said, “Joe, you need to figure something out. You need to pray and ask the Holy Ghost to help you because you’re her father, and you need to help her do that project.”

Well, I wasn’t too happy about it. It was 10 o’clock at night, and we lived out in the country. I didn’t want to drive all the way to Walmart, and the closest store to us was a 7-11 convenience store. I thought, we need a miracle either way! God can do miracles at 7-11 just like He can at Walmart, so let’s just go there.

To make a long story short, my daughter and I walked into the 7-11 and bought a bag of cotton balls, six different brands of hair spray, and some matches, and we made a science fair project that night! I won’t go into the details of telling you what it was, but I will say she got a “B” on that project!

Thank God for the Holy Ghost my Helper! He helps me when I’m preaching in the pulpit, and He helps me when I’m trying to get a last-minute science project together for my kids!
