Mom and Dad, know this truth and teach it to your kids—no blessing will ever come to you unless it comes out of your mouth. Complaining and griping won’t bring the blessing, but it will bring a whole lot of negativity into your life.
The Bible says death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Until you start saying good things about yourself and your family, God can’t move. God doesn’t move through negative words: “We’re never going to make it. We’ll never get out of debt. Our kids are crazy! We should never have had kids. I don’t know what I was thinking!”
Do you want to do something great for your family? Start speaking a blessing over them. I don’t care if you have step kids, foster kids, or grandkids living under your roof, you have the anointing to lay hands on them and speak a blessing over them. I don’t care what you see, hear, feel, or smell. “You’re blessed, you little knothead! Bless your heart. You’re a blessing! Yes, you are!”
The Take Away
If we want to see the blessing of God on our lives, we have to speak it over ourselves. Speak blessings over your children, and teach your kids to speak blessings over themselves. Have them write scriptures down like, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13), and “God’s favor surrounds me like a shield” (Psalm 5:12, paraphrased). Tape them to the bathroom mirror so they can speak them out loud as they’re getting ready in the morning. Develop that habit in them at a young age, and it’ll stick with them the rest of their life.
